Bathroom Flooring
Homeowners have many things to consider when choosing bathroom flooring. A bathroom floor should be moisture-proof, stain-resistant, have a non-skid surface that’s safe even when wet, and be durable enough to stand up to constant foot traffic. In addition, your bathroom floor should be beautiful and fit within your budget. For over 20 years Elite Kitchens has been Maryland, Virginia, and the Washington, D.C. area’s premier kitchen and bathroom remodeler for customers in McLean, Falls Church, and Bethesda.
Bathroom Flooring Options
Vinyl
Vinyl is a popular bathroom flooring material because it’s inexpensive and practical. It’s extremely water resistant and has a wide range of color and style options. These styles can be easily paired with modern or contemporary design elements to create a unique look catered to your personality. In addition, vinyl flooring is much softer on the feet than other flooring options, providing a more comfortable surface.
Porcelain tile
Porcelain tiles are made from clay that is fired and shaped at extremely high temperatures. Porcelain is considered impervious to moisture, and its hard exterior resists staining, making it a great choice for bathroom flooring. These tiles come in a variety of colors, styles, shapes, and sizes, allowing you to personalize your own unique design.
Glass Tiles
Glass tiles offer a unique look and unmatched shine for bathroom floors. Translucent tiles can add an unusual effect of depth to surfaces that’s unlike any other material. Glass has a rich quality that other materials don’t have since you can see the color all the way through versus other material like ceramic tile. Glass tiles are also resistant to stains, mildew and allergens. They’re easy to wipe clean and do not stain. Their durability is comparable to other wall and flooring materials.
Natural Stone
Natural stone such as marble or granite is a popular and stylish choice for bathroom flooring. Stone tiles offer a sophisticated look and feel for bathrooms and when properly maintained will last a lifetime. Stone tiles or slabs can come in countless styles contain their own distinctive patterns and streaks of color. Natural stone is porous and sealing will be necessary to protect its surface.
Radiant Floor Heating
Elite Kitchens is the region’s premier bathroom remodeler to offer state of the art radiate floor heating systems. Modern in-floor heating feels luxurious and is actually a cost efficient way to heat your bathroom. With a radiant floor heating, the heat source is distributed under the bathroom flooring so heat radiates up through the floor to heat the entire room. This ensures you get an even heating of the bathroom.
The two common under floor heating systems are electric and hot water (hydronic). Electrical systems use insulated electrical wires under your floor to produce heat. This type of floor heating is easier to install but more expensive to run. This may be a good option for smaller bathrooms. The hot water system uses small water tubes to circulate warm water under the bathroom floor. These are less expensive monthly and are a good choice to heat larger bathrooms. Radiant floor heating is quiet, luxurious and economical.
