2016 is already turning out to be a big year for interior design. Pantone has chosen two colors instead of one for this year’s Color of the Year. Designers are calling for relaxing muted pastels and are predicting modern revamps of old trends. We’re excited to see what this year brings, and we’ve already started turning our eye to cabinetry. We prefer to offer timeless solutions that stand the test of trends and passing fancies, but it looks like the cabinetry trends for 2016 will be ones that are here to stay. Read on to see why we think 2016’s trends will turn out to be timeless design standards.
Personalized Cabinets
Personalization and custom design are big assets to the kitchen cabinetry industry right now. Many homeowners want kitchens that reflect their personalities. There is now such a wide array of cabinetry styles to choose from that any homeowner is sure to find the exact cabinetry style to suit their own unique personality.
Clean Lines
Leicht Cabinetry has been emphasizing clean lines in their kitchen cabinetry for years. It looks like 2016 will prove Leicht to be right, with clean lines and subtle design being the dominant design elements in kitchen cabinetry in the upcoming year. We think that this style is here to stay, since Leicht has been doing it for 80 years and because a clean, organized kitchen can never really go out of style.
Shaker Cabinets
Shaker cabinets have been in style for years, and it doesn’t look like they’re going out of style any time soon. The beauty in shaker cabinets lays in their simplicity; they’re composed of a square panel of wood with a wood border. Shaker cabinets are beautiful painted or natural.
Subtle Pastels
The surgically sterile white kitchen is out, and muted pastels are in. This look is becoming more and more popular, with muted hues painting the cabinetry and natural stone countertops and white walls complementing the pastels. Pantone’s pick for the 2016 Color of the Year was actually two colors: smooth pink Rose Quartz and dusty blue Serenity. These soft pastels are bound to show up in many high-end kitchens this year.
Functional Design
An increasing emphasis is being placed on making kitchen cabinetry just as functional as it is beautiful. “Smart spaces” are becoming increasingly popular, with hidden charging ports and spaces to house laptops, smartphones, and tablets built into the cabinetry. Spaces in the kitchen are also becoming more versatile, with hidden drawers and personalized compartments working to utilize kitchen space more efficiently.
Horizontal Cabinets
Most cabinetry is vertical, but horizontal cabinets are becoming more trendy. If you already have enough space in your kitchen, horizontal cabinets are a great idea; they make your dishes and stored food and appliances easier to reach. This accessible kitchen style is bound to capture the hearts of many homeowners.
